Rant and Rave: ‘A Dance with Dragons’

George R. R. Martin has once again captured his readers with another exciting and heart-pounding story, “A Dance With Dragons”.

Much like the previous books in the “Songs of Ice and Fire” series, it continues to revolve around the political struggles of the reigning monarch, treacherous plots of the ambitious characters and the rising of new kings, though the key players’ fates have dramatically changed for the better and for the worse.

The story starts where  “A Storm of Swords” left off, but unlike “A Feast for Crows”, Martin narrates the journey of the key characters such as Bran, Tyrion and Daenarys, which were not presented in the previous novels.  The book, much like its predecessors, remains to be a cliff-hanger as more of the memorable characters are put into desperate situations and abruptly ends at that point.

Nevertheless, it is a thrilling and breathtaking work of literature comparable to the Harry Potter series, though significantly more violent and sometimes erotic.

Those waiting for the new season of the Game of Thrones TV series are better off reading the book version.
