2011: From Rookie of the Year to MVP

Lady Tennister Ma. Regina Santiago.

The last two UAAP seasons were memorable for Lady Tennister Ma. Regina Santiago.

Aiding the Lady Tennisters to a back-to-back UAAP championship, she reaped two major awards. In her debut season, she was on top of her batch and was adjudged as the Season 72 Rookie of the Year.

The following year, She earned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) plum and maintained an undefeated streak in the UAAP ranks.

Santiago surpassed Ateneo’s top gun and tennis national player, Michelle Pang in last season’s championship duel.

She was down 1-6 in the first set, but bounced back and dealt Ateneo’s Pang, her first and only loss in the collegiate level. She claimed the next two sets, 6-3 and 6-2, through her consistent groundstrokes and power play, helping the Lady Tennisters reach fifth in the over-all title.

This 5’4 tennis prodigy also assisted the DLSU Lady Tennisters in winning the back-to-back crowns in the UniGames and Milo Intecollegiate championship.
