2011: Green Judokas, Lady Paddlers reckon second best

The Green Judokas and Lady Paddlers finished a step away from the championship, at the end of the first half of the 74th edition of the UAAP hostilities.

The Green Judokas’ three-one-five, gold-silver-bronze medal haul was not enough to wrest DLSU’s first UAAP Judo championship against perennial contender UST Judokas.

Veterans BG Albarracin, Colin Buckley, and CJ San Pedro ruled their respective weight categories to give the Centennial squad three gold medals.

The Judokas’ five bronze medals were courtesy of Ricardo Pena, Jobi Yan, Keith Ver, Mickey Regala and Andrew Laya, while Captain William Chia captured a silver medal.

The Lady Paddlers almost achieved top seed, but were nailed as UAAP Table Tennis tournament bridesmaids for the second consecutive year.

Upon arranging the championship match against the UP Lady Maroons, the Lady Paddlers started strong with victories coming from Rookie of the Year Ian Lariba and senior Kimberly Medina.

The momentum, however, slowed down and reached rock bottom as the succeeding doubles and singles matches eventually yielded the title to the Diliman-based squad.
