Lady Archers continue spirited post-season contest

The UAAP basketball season may have ended for the Girls in green since September, but they have found themselves busy again in the on-going Dickies Filipino-Chinese Basketball League (FCBL) held at the Philippine Buddha Care Gym, Quezon City.

The Lady Archers closed the classification round of the Saturday-scheduled tourney last January 28 in fourth place with a 4-3 win-loss record.

They came in with a three-way-tie with Lyceum of the Philippines University Lady Pirates and Centro Escolar University (CEU) Lady Scorpions ranking third and fifth according to based on respective quotients.

Adamson Lady Falcons topped the FCBL class; they swept seven matches with FEU Lady Tamaraws right behind sporting a 5-2 record.

The University of the East Lady Warriors (2-5), University of Santo Tomas Lady Tigresses (1-6), and Ateneo de Manila Lady Eagles (1-6) finished in sixth, seventh and eighth in that order.

After seven matches in a single round robin, the top four teams will battle it out against the bottom four teams, where the former set of teams have a twice-to-beat advantage.

Fourth-seeded Lady Archers faced fifth ranked CEU. The Green-and-White squad got the better of things behind steady shooting from Lady Archer Sarah Corcuera to conclude the game, 66-60.

Despite the close score line, Lady Archers mentor Tyrone Bautista said that the score did not indicate the complexion of the game as the girls from Taft completely outclassed their Mendiola counterparts.

It was also an impressive outing for the rookies and sophomores ticking more playing time in the court.

As for Coach Bautista, the team still needs to work on ball handling since most of the team’s turnovers came from passing errors, while stressing the team’s defense as their key strength.

With the win against CEU, the Lady Archers have invited Adamson University to a semifinals duel. The winner of the game will go on to meet either Lyceum or UST.
