Lady Archers bows to undefeated Tamaraws, places second

The DLSU Lady Archers fell short in its bid to extend the series against perennial champions FEU last October 11, 2012 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum, 70-66.

With the Tamaraws sitting on a thrice-to-beat advantage, the Lady Archers’ defeat last Sunday placed the squad on a do-or-die situation as the Tams needed one win to secure the title.

Despite fighting throughout game two of the finals, the Lady Archers launched a failed bid that ended the Taft-based squad’s season without a single win against the Lady Tamaraws.

Action

The Lady Archers started the game with high intensity, managing a 16-21 first quarter lead.

Going into the second canto the Tams went back into game to tie both teams at 33 apiece at the half.

Late in the third though, FEU went on a run to steal the lead backed by Camille Sambile. She paced her squad and finished with 16 points and 16 rebounds.

Down by six entering the final period, the Lady Archers made a mini run towards the halfway mark of the last quarter through multiple contributions from the ladies on the floor. The Taft-based squad, however, fell short, giving the Morayta-based squad a four-point lead, a victory and the title.

Trisha Piatos led the ladies from Taft. She ended the game with 16 markers while mythical five member Ara Abaca finished with 12 points and five boards.

The squad’s loss also marked the end of the season of veterans Hannah Viterbo and Kady Wilson. Viterbo finished with six points, and Wilson had a double-double output with 10 points and 12 rebounds to end her UAAP stint.

Despite the loss, Head Coach Tyrone Bautista believes that his team is a force to reckon with next season.

“The team did all what I told them to do. It is just really the breaks of the game, but surely this team will become better each season. It was an honor to coach Kady and Hannah, and I will surely cherish those moments I had with them and through the years. They not only matured as athletes, but as individuals as well,” ended Bautista.

Quarter scores 16-21, 33-33, 55-49, 70-66
