De La Salle University surged to the lead in the first two days of the University Games last October 22 and 23 in Bacolod, Negros Occidental.

Early action

The athletes from Taft bagged early wins as the men’s football, and both volleyball teams hold perfect records.

The Green Booters pulled a remarkable win against San Beda College and a tie against the University of the Philippines, the NCAA and UAAP defending champion. The team garnered a 1-0 victory against the former and a 0-0 draw against the latter at the Panaad Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Green Spikers maintained an immaculate win column after earning a couple of three-set sweeps against Colegio dela Purisima Concepcion and the University of Philippines Diliman at the Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Activity Center.

The team’s female counterpart, the back-to-back UAAP champion, also notched the same feat after dispatching Colegio dela Purisima Concepcion, Colegio San Agustin – Bacolod and Jose Maria College. The matches were held at the University of St. La Salle gym, Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Activity Center and University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos respectively.

The Green and Lady Paddlers also followed the winning streak after making work of their opponents. The Green Paddlers swept both Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan and Holy Angel University in three sets. The Lady Paddlers also trounced John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University and Holy Cross of Davao College at the Lopues center in Mandalagan.

The Lady Booters, however, broke the streak as the team fall to the UP Lady Booters in the two team’s UniGames opener, 1-3, at the University of St. La Salle football field.

The UniGames will hold more sports events in its remaining days. The tournament has become a training ground for DLSU teams that are about to compete in the second half of the UAAP.
