Green Gallery: Jovet Mendoza

Jovet Mendoza entered De la Salle University in 2008 to play for the Green Archers after finishing his secondary education in Urdaneta National High School.

In his five years as a player, the Taft-based squad made it to the Final Four for three seasons (season 71, 73 and 75).

Having played with established PBA players like JV Casio and Rico Meierhoffer in his rookie years, Mendoza recognized that he had learned much from the two professional players.

“I am honored to play with these guys, JV and Rico sobrang taas ng tingin ko sa kanila because they led the team very well, especially in games where we need a leader who could lead the younger ones, and tell to them what to do, especially in the court.” Mendoza shared.

Considered as one of the most reliable big men in the Archers’ roster, Mendoza is one of the veterans who led the rookies in the Archers’ comeback this year.

Now that his UAAP career has come to an end, Mendoza is very pleased with the team’s accomplishment this season. After a disappointing bid last year, the Green Archers made a surprising comeback.

Mendoza furthered that they really wanted to reach the Final Four this year, and that he is happy that they have done just that.

He ended, “I’m going to miss wearing the green and white jersey and playing for the Lasallian community, the school pride. A lot of good memories in college basketball, the ups and downs while being part of the team for the past five years, yung kulitan, asaran ng bawat isa, always having each and everyone’s back. That is why I am so thankful that I am part of this institution.”
