UniGames: La Salle strikes gold thrice

De La Salle University shined once again as the athletes in Green-and-White ended their weeklong stint in the 17th University Games last October 28 in Bacolod, Negros Occidental.

The Taft-based athletes ended UniGames 2012 with three gold medals, four silver medals, and a bronze medal.

Different tournament, same result

UAAP champion, the Lady Paddlers, scored another championship title after besting University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos, 3-1.

The Green Paddlers, on the other hand, yet again came close to the throne, but failed to defeat San Beda College, resulting in the Paddlers’ bridesmaid conclusion with a 2-3 loss.

Gaining momentum for the UAAP

The Lady Spikers, winner of the last two UAAP Women’s Volleyball Championships, won the UniGames title after beating this year’s host, the University of St. La Salle. The team is now gearing up for a third straight championship bid in the UAAP.

Participating in the tourney this year after sitting out the 2011 edition, the squad from Taft beat last year’s champion in convincing fashion, churning a 3-0 victory.

Successfully staying in the top three, the Lady Booters held its ground against University of Santo Tomas, securing a third place victory, 1-0.

Meanwhile, the Green Booters, the winner of last year’s UniGames Men’s Football Tournament, fell to fourth place. The team fell to SBC, suffering a 1-3 loss in penalties after finishing regulation with one goal apiece.

Outside the sun and in a battle of wits, the Green and Lady Woodpushers settled as bridesmaids.

The Lady Tennisters also brought home gold, edging CSB with a 2-0 victory. The Green Tennisters were not as fortunate as the team fell, 1-2, against UST.

Leaving a mark

DLSU left a mark in the 17th UniGames, finishing with a total of eight medals in team sports and 14 athletics medals.
