Lady Spikers embark on a three-peat quest

On December 2, the DLSU Lady Spikers will play its first UAAP match and begin a bid for a three-peat against the University of Santo Tomas at 3:30pm at the Arena in San Juan.

A tradition of dominance

After sweeping last year’s elimination round and downing Ateneo in the finals, La Salle will look to win three straight championships for the first time since 2005.

With the losses of Cha Cruz, Carmela Garbin, Alexi Tatlonghari and Camille Cruz from last year’s roster, the Lady Spikers will rely on Season 74 MVP Abi Marano, two-time Best Blocker Michelle Gumabao and reigning Rookie of the Year Ara Galang to bring the team to the promised land.

Rookies Cienne Cruz, Justine Tiu and Kim Fajardo will look to reinforce Coach Ramil De Jesus’ squad. The expectations for these reinforcements will be high as the last four Rookie of the Year awards were awarded to members of the Lady Spikers.

A bigger challenge awaits

The team’s first opponent, the UST Tigresses, will not back down from the challenge. After finishing last season at third place with a 9-5 record, the squad from España will look to start the season strong with a win against the defending champion.

The road to the championship this year looks tougher than in the past years, and the Lady Spikers will have to struggle for each win. The coming season will be a test of their mettle, but La Salle looks ready to put everything on the line for that third straight championship.
