KINGS OF THE ROAD: The DLSU Running Club

Known as one of the contemporary popular sports in the Philippines today, running has become a popular sport among Lasallians. To address the growing interest in running in the Lasallian community, several running enthusiasts formed the DLSU Running Club.

Beginning of the road

Tracking its roots back to the DLSU track and field team, the DLSU running Club is a club that aims to grow interest in running and promote fitness amongst the youth.

Yearly, the DLSU Running Club hosts an annual fun run commonly known throughout the La Salle Community as the Animo Run. This fun run is usually held at the start of the New Year to raise awareness of the sport. It aims to raise funds for the scholars of the University.

Despite having a good image and status among sports clubs in the university, for a period of time now, the running club has experienced a decline in membership and growth.

Through the tough times

Over the past terms, the club is getting fewer members. As a result, the club is suffering from financial and personnel constraints. Having minimal funds hindered the club to have access to new programs and runs.

According a source from the Running Club who wished to remain anonymous, “Over almost a year now, the club has been sleeping. Since less people are interested to join, fewer funds are acquired and so there isn’t enough to make a good training program as well as funds to join runs to not just promote the club, but also to represent the school.”

No Animo Run this 2013

Due to the club’s recent decline of patrons, there may not be an Animo Run this 2013. The club will no longer push through with the said event because of certain reasons such as lack of sponsors, lack of personnel and lack of funds.

The club, however, is still hoping that the Lasallian community would support a possible Animo Run this year.
