University implements no idling policy

As per an announcement released by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration last March 4, the University has resolved to implement a no idling policy in all DLSU parking areas starting on March 6.

Under the guidelines, all types of motor vehicles and motorcycles will be subject to the rule. According to the announcement, “Idling causes the unnecessary direct exposure of the members of the community to toxic fumes and pollutants. These pollutants have been identified as causes of various health and environmental problems including cancer, respiratory illnesses, global warming and acid rain.”

All parked vehicle engines left open for more than one (1) minute will considered idling. The policy was implemented last March 6 and beginning April 8, 2013, motorists found violating the new policy by Security and Safety Office (SSO) personnel will be fined P 1,000.

According to the policy, proceeds from the fines will be used for the “the maintenance of gardens and green spaces in DLSU.”
