DLSU Chorale takes flight

Celebrating its growth, challenges and victories in the last academic year, the DLSU Chorale hosted Taking Flight: The Year End Concert at the Teresa Yuchengco Auditorium last April 6, 2013, 7:30 pm.

The choir, directed by renowned choral conductor Rodolfo Delarmente, sang various pieces from different genres, eras and continents.

The choir’s repertoire focused on the Madrigals, Negro Spirituals, religious, folk and ethnic songs. The pieces embodied faith, strength and freedom, classical tunes that have touched the lives of the young and the young at heart, as well as songs that give tribute to the uniqueness and diversity of Philippine culture.

Preparations

Project Head Erica King expresses, “We were experiencing [a lot] of fear and insecurity [regarding] our own singing skills during the planning phase of this concert, and we wanted to use this concert to finally break free from those cages and to take flight with our music.”

She shares that the choir started learning their pieces since the beginning of the year before classes started, with four hours of rehearsal everyday.

Future endeavors

“We are a disciplined group whose ultimate goal is to be able to compete abroad where the trend is purely classical music,” says King.
