In preparation for the UAAP, the Green Archers will be led by newly appointed head coach Juno Sauler.

In a surprise turn of events, Marco Januz “Juno” Sauler was named the new head coach of the DLSU Green Archers with the 76th Season of the UAAP just three weeks away.

The surprise announcement was made by DLSU President Br. Ricky Laguda last June 8. Sauler was the lead assistant coach of the team last year under Gee Abanilla and the Green Archers finished at fourth place in a return to the Final Four with a 10-4 slate in their lone season on the sidelines together. Abanilla will be returning to the Petron coaching staff as an assistant coach in the PBA.

Sauler is no stranger to La Salle and is as “green” as anyone can get. He was a standout in the De La Salle Zobel basketball program and he eventually suited up for the Green Archers from 1992 up until 1994. In his final year, the Economics major was named the captain of the team, but La Salle unfortunately lost in the finals to UST.

He would return to La Salle in late 1998 as the coach of the Lady Archers. In his first season in 1999, he steered the team to the UAAP championship and followed it up with two more in 2000 and 2001. After a third straight title, he left the team to become an assistant for Ginebra in the PBA, a position he still holds to this day. During his tenure coaching in the PBA, Sauler has been under the tutelage of legendary coaches Ron Jacobs and fellow DLSU alumnus Jong Uichico.

Sauler and the Green Archers will kick off their UAAP campaign on June 29 at the Mall of Asia Arena at 4pm against the UST Growling Tigers.
