Gumabao relinquishes last UAAP season

Having won three championships over her four years with the team, DLSU Lady Spiker Michele Gumabao announced that she will not suit up for the Green and White this coming UAAP Season 76.

After walking away from the volleyball court, Gumabao has begun the new chapter of her life. Completing her On-the-Job Training last April and May, she will graduate in October with her degree in BS Marketing Management.

Given the fact that her father, Dennis Roldan, is a former actor and her brother, Marco, is currently active in the show business, Gumabao is open to pursuing a career in television hosting after her graduation. However, she also pointed out that she’s also interested in developing their family’s lush property in Zambales into a farm and livestock business.

The Lady Spikers have won the title a total of eight times in the UAAP, three of which had Gumabao in tow. La Salle also won three straight championships in the PVF National Inter-Collegiate Volleyball Tournament with Gumabao in its ranks, just as the team just won its fourth straight last May.

During her time under head coach Ramil de Jesus, Gumabao was named the UAAP Season 73 and 74 Best Blocker and last March, she was hailed the UAAP Season 75 Finals Most Valuable Player after the Lady Spikers completed a three-peat against Ateneo.

With Abi Marano, Mika Reyes and Ara Galang still in the team, plus several emerging bench players and rookies, the Lady Spikers remain a strong championship contender even without their prized blocker.  A new era begins for La Salle without Michele Gumabao, but her glorious stint with the Lady Spikers will be difficult to forget.
