Freshmen converge for annual workout

A plethora of freshmen clad in their PE uniforms flooded the Cory Aquino Democratic Space at the Henry Sy Sr. Hall (HSSH) grounds today to take part in the culminating activity for all students taking FITWELL this term.

Now on its second year, the annual mass aerobics workout activity was participated in by all students enrolled in the course. Usually held near the end of the term, the activity serves an avenue for students encompassing all the colleges to gather as one and showcase their aerobic dancing skills.

According to Neil Bernardo, a member of the PE faculty, the activity was held to establish unity and forge camaraderie among the youngest members of the DLSU community. He also stated that another purpose was for them “to move as one university.”

The students generally saw the activity in a positive light. Most were all smiles during the activity itself. Some stated it was a chance for them to take a break from the pressure building up from their workloads. John Camarines (I, OSD-MKT) expressed, “I believe that having a culminating activity focused on sports development can lead to happiness in DLSU, besides the obvious incentive of health benefits.”

FITWELL, the course code for Fitness and Wellness, is a fairly new course which only materialized last year to accommodate ID112 students. It is now a prerequisite for other PE courses for ID113 students.

The main component of FITWELL, aerobics, greatly contributes to the efficiency of the heart and the lungs by increasing circulation of blood to these organs as well as to the different blood vessels in the body for better functioning. Aerobics is also an effective means to lose weight and to tone muscles.
