PRESS RELEASE: DLSU and CSB cheerleaders win gold in Asian cheer competition

Members from DLSU’s Animo Squad and the College of Saint Benilde Pep Squad competed as the 24-woman Team Blazing Archers to win the gold medal of the All-Girl Elite Team Cheer division in the Asia Cheerleading Invitational Championship (ACIC) 2014, held in Singapore last March 29. The Blazing Archers bested three teams from Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore to take home the top division award.

ACIC, previously the South East Asian Cheerleading Open, is an annual cheerleading competition where the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and other Asian countries compete against each other in different cheerleading events. This year, 50 teams from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, China, and Thailand competed against each other in 16 competitive divisions.

Aside from the Blazing Archers, two other Philippine teams, the Altas from the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA and the Taguig City University Pep Squad participated in the competition. The Altas bagged medals from four divisions in the Co-ed Premier categories.

This is the fourth year that Philippine teams competed in the ACIC. Over the past three years, Team Pilipinas, a national cheerleading team composed of cheerleaders from different high schools and universities, has consistently been competing and winning gold medals in the meet. This year, however, the rules that teams should be school-based, leading to the dissolution of the national team in favor of international teams.

“The Altas bagged medals from four divisions in the Co-ed Premier categories.” – Co-ed Premier is just one division. The other divisions we won are Co-ed Elite, Co-ed Premier and Co-ed Group Stunts, plus a silver finish in Partner Stunts.

“This year, however, the rules that teams should be school-based, leading to the dissolution of the national team in favor of international teams.” – Team Pilipinas was NOT dissolved, and is, in fact, currently training for the ICU Cheerleading WORLDS in Orlando (a first for the Philippines). Plus, that statement doesn’t make the best sense – what do you mean by “…dissolution of the national team in favor of international teams”?

Good to see that the online TLS is exactly the same as the print edition, though. 😉
