De La Salle University (DLSU) received a 151-160 ranking in this year’s QS University Rankings: Asia. With more than 300 universities included in the survey, DLSU maintained the ranking it received last year. Although this is the case, the University received the second lowest ranking among the five Philippine universities included in the list.

The University of the Philippines (UP) received a ranking of 63, Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) ranked 115th, University of Santo Tomas (UST) ranked 141st, while Ateneo de Davao University received a 251-300 ranking. UP and UST improved their rankings from last year’s results, but AdMU fell six places below their 2013 ranking. Ateneo de Davao University is the newest Philippine university to make it to the region’s best universities list.

Every year, Quacquarelli Symonds, a United Kingdom-based company specializing in producing publications on education and study abroad opportunities, facilitates the survey that ranks different universities across the globe using several criteria. For the regional survey, nine criteria were used. These were academic reputation, citations per paper, papers per faculty, employer reputation, international faculty, inbound exchange, outbound exchange, faculty student, and international student population. Academic peers and counterparts took part in the survey.

Among the criteria used in gauging the participating universities’ performance, DLSU scored high in citations per paper and international students population. On the other hand, it received low marks in inbound exchange and outbound exchange. The National University of Singapore was regarded as Asia’s best university, while Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and University of Hong Kong placed second and third, respectively.

The QS World University Rankings is one of the three most influential international universities rankings available to the public. Along with the Academic Ranking of World Universities and Times Higher Education World University Rankings, the QS World University Rankings, these surveys identify the world’s top universities. The QS University Rankings: Asia is a sub-section of the QS World University Rankings. The latter is yet to be published.
