UAAP: DLSU finishes sixth in CDC, NU bags back-to-back championship

The DLSU Animo Squad finished sixth in this year’s UAAP Cheerdance Competition.

The stage was set for eight of the nations most prestigious universities to battle it out for this year’s UAAP Season 77 Cheerdance Competition (CDC). The neck-on-neck battle featured exciting routines accompanied by impressive stunts and flaring moves; it was clear that each squad was eyeing a championship. The UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe bagged third place with 625 points while the UP Pep Squad, who tallied 658 points, managed to stand strong with a second place standing. Defending CDC Champions NU Cheer Squadron established their dominance once again by winning the championship this year, with a total of 677.5 points.

In this year’s competition, the Animo Squad staged a Star Wars-inspired performance in front of over 22,000 people. They started off with a signature La Salle cheer followed by their stunts and towering pyramids. They were able to execute them well but fell twice.

Performing their dance routine highlighted by a formation of a star similar to the Signum Fidei star of La Salle, they wowed the crowd when they drew their green lightsaber props and showed a fight scene dance move.

Unfortunately, luck wasn’t on the side of the Animo Squad. Compared to their previous performance last season, DLSU fell 3 places short from their podium finish stint. With a total score of 557 points, La Salle fell to sixth place.

Months before this year’s tournament, the rookie-dominated squad underwent heavy training alongside DLS-CSB to compete internationally and to prepare them for Season 77.

Each team was scored based on their dance routine, stunts, pyramids and tosses. NU, UP, and UST proved to be the best at what they do; setting the bar high for upcoming tournaments.

DLSU has yet to grow as a team, while still searching for their first championship in the UAAP CDC.

Meanwhile, for the group stunts competition, FEU grabbed first place, UST grabbed the second spot, and NU bagged the third spot.
