Tolentino awarded as one of NCR’s top students

Lasallian Gregg Louise Tolentino (BSMSECO, ‘15) was named one of the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP) from the National Capital Region (NCR) during the program’s regional awarding ceremony held last May 9 at the Asian Institute of Management.

Tolentino shares with The LaSallian that he is thankful for being part of the finalists for this year’s TOSP search. Through the awards program, Tolentino describes that he has “met brilliant individuals with noble advocacies for the Philippines.”

“At first, my goal was to become part of the Top 10 for our University,” admits Tolentino, who explains that he considers being one of the finalists a big blessing after knowing more about the TOSP Alumni Community. “We are all credible and driven by our passion for the country,” speaks Tolentino of his fellow finalists.

Tolentino, who graduated as magna cum laude in February 2015, is a full member of the Jose Rizal Honors Society. During his stay in the University, Tolentino was active within the student government. He was the Chairperson for the Student’s Rights and Welfare Committee in the Legislative Assembly during academic year 2013-2014. The following year, he served as president of political party Santugon sa Tawag ng Panahon. He was also one of the advocates of the proposed amendments to the USG Constitution.

The TOSP awards program is held annually in search of Filipino students who not only excel in academics but also possess outstanding moral character and socio-civic consciousness. With the theme “Everyday Heroism,” this year’s TOSP sought to recognize individuals who are role models in nation building.

Tolentino will move on to represent the University and NCR in the TOSP finals. Last year, DLSU Law’s Justin Sucgang was awarded as one of the nation’s most outstanding students.
