Man killed in tragic DLSU bus accident

A DLSU bus figured in a vehicular accident that claimed the life of one man last June 17 along Sta. Rosa Highway in Laguna at around 8 pm. As of press time, it is still unclear who were riding the bus when the accident took place.

The Arrows Express provides regular trips from DLSU Manila to STC and back on a daily basis for the Lasallian community.
DLSU offers different shuttle services to students and faculty members on official business outside of campus, as well as on regular trips to and from STC in Laguna.

According to an eyewitness account, the bus was heading towards a nearby gas station when the victim, onboard a motorcycle, collided with the side of the bus. Following the impact, the victim was thrown off his motorcycle and slid under the DLSU vehicle. He died on the spot.

The bus was allegedly en route to DLSU – Science and Technology Complex (STC).

It also remains unclear whether or not the family of the victim has filed charges against the University. However, Vice President for STC Dr. Pag-asa Gaspillo confirmed on June 18 that “DLSU is doing its best to assist the family of the victim.”

According to Dr. Gaspillo, the Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Campus Services, under which the University’s security and transportation services currently operate, is “on top in attending, assisting, [and] reaching out [to] the family of the victim.”

The LaSallian contacted Vice President for Administration Edwin Santiago regarding the incident, who echoed Dr. Gaspillo’s statement on the matter. The LaSallian has sought out Associate Vice Chancellor for Campus Services Jay Calleja for an interview. More on this story as it develops.

Update (22 June 2015): The University’s official statement is as follows:

De La Salle University deeply regrets the loss of life resulting from the accident involving a DLSU shuttle service in Brgy. Don Jose, Santa Rosa City last June 17.

The University immediately cooperated with authorities and is currently conducting a parallel internal investigation. While awaiting the full report on the matter, DLSU is committed to extend assistance to the bereaved family.
