LA discusses Arrows Express and comp lab schedules, deliberates on STC RIG and Independence Day open letter

The University Student Government (USG) Legislative Assembly (LA) held its third regular session for the term last June 10 at the Emilio Yap Jr. Case Room. During the session, the floor talked through four resolutions, which tackled the revision of the Arrows Express schedule, amendment of the Science and Technology Complex Government (STC) Rules of Internal Governance (RIG), release of Information Technology Services (ITS) computer laboratory schedule, and release of an open letter in time for Independence Day.

The session began with STC Representative Kristian Sisayan discussing the resolution calling to revise the Arrows Express schedule to match time slots based on a study conducted on those who ride the Arrows Express. Sisayan explained that for this term, the 8 am shuttle will be rescheduled to depart at 9 am instead, while a 1 pm shuttle will be added to the daily timetable.

Also discussed were two proposals in line with Arrows Express, namely the vehicle allocation system and the conduct of term-end surveys evaluating Arrows Express. The resolution was made due to priorities being given to student cross-enrollees and misallocation of vehicles. At present, six vans, three coasters, one mini bus, and one big bus all operate under Arrows Express.

The resolution was passed with 20 voting for, 0 against, 0 abstentions.

The second agenda was a rereading of the resolution calling for the revision of the STC RIG, which was up for amendments. After a long deliberation, the assembly agreed on a statement that states that the RIG will remain in effect unless a new one supercedes it. A section under the resolution which says that the RIG will remain in effect this academic year 2015-2016 will also be removed due to redundancy.

Isabel Pablo of FOCUS2014 then discussed the last resolution about the release of an open letter regarding the 118th anniversary of Araw ng Kalayaan. According to Pablo, the letter will be discussing a background of Araw ng Kalayaan and its significance to the Filipino people. The letter also includes a message for the youth to protect the freedom that Filipinos are enjoying today. An English version of the letter will also be released.

The resolution was passed with 19 for, 0 against, 0 abstentions.
