UAAP: Lady Archers triumph over Lady Warriors, 74-72

Banking on a strong start, the DLSU Lady Archers notched their third consecutive victory after defeating the UE Lady Warriors, 74-72, at the Mall of Asia Arena, yesterday. Khate Castillo led DLSU with 21 points, nine rebounds, and three assists. Camille Claro, who played a vital cog in the game, closely followed with 17 points, three rebounds, and six assists. Snow Penaranda completed a double-double performance, contributing 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Anna Requiron led the Lady Warriors and contributed 21 points, with support from Eunique Chan’s 18 points and 10 rebounds. Love Sto. Domingo and Nicole Medina rounded-up the double digit scorers for UE,  with 15 points and 11 rebounds, and 10 points and 7 assists, respectively.

Fast start

The Lady Archers dictated the game early on, finishing with a 10-point lead at the end of the first quarter, 25-15. The Lady Warriors committed 16 turnovers in the first half, compared to 13 from La Salle.

UE improved its effort in the second quarter, but was still outscored, 19-18, and trailed by 11 points, 44-33 at halftime. The Lady Warriors bench, after 20 minutes of play, outscored the DLSU bench, 15-8, behind 13 points from Anna Requiron alone. In contrast, the starters of the Lady Archers contributed 36 points at halftime, double the output of their counterparts from UE. 

Tight second half

The Lady Warriors finished the third quarter with an improved effort, but still trailed, 55-53. UE outmatched La Salle in the third quarter, as the latter was held to only 11 points, compared to the staggering 20 points from the prior.

The game had a total of three deadlocks and five lead changes as both teams pushed for victory. While UE had 44 inside points compared to La Salle’s 32, the Lady Archers banked on their perimeter game as they outscored the Lady Warriors, 35-13, in the said category behind nine converted three-pointers. UE was unable to outmatch the Lady Archers in the final period of play, however, as the team from Taft sealed a 74-72 victory for their fifth win of the season.

With the result, the Green-and-White now improve to five wins and one defeat. Next up for the Lady Archers will be the ADMU Lady Eagles on Sunday, October 2, at 10 am, also at the Mall of Asia Arena.
