LA deliberates on magistrate and COA appointments

Last October 7, the University Student Government (USG) Legislative Assembly (LA) held its fifth regular session for the academic year to discuss the appointments in the Judiciary branch.

Magistrate appointments

The LA commenced the session with resolutions calling on the approval of the appointment of several USG magistrates. First on the agenda was Nico Caminade’s application. Minority Floor Leader Hiraya Mendez presented evidences against Caminade’s denial of active participation in political party Santugon sa Tawag ng Panahon. With all members of the floor voting against, Caminade’s appointment as magistrate was disapproved.

Lastly, the LA immediately proceeded to the voting proper with Emmanuel Espina and Isabela Doctolero. Their appointments as USG magistrates were approved.

COA appointments

Following the magistrate appointments, the LA proceeded with the discussion on the approval of auditor appointments under the Commission on Audit (COA).

The floor agreed on conducting 10 minute interviews for each of the candidates present. Among the candidates interviewed were Jean Pierre Isip and Angelo Terrel, who tackled the issues on the recent corruption allegations posted in the DLSU-Manila Secret Files Facebook page.

Interviews and appointment approvals for COA auditors will be continued in the next LA session.
