DLSU bags awards in 2016 NMUN Japan

DLSU won the outstanding delegation award representing Venezuela in the recently concluded National Model United Nations (NMUN) Japan. Meanwhile, two DLSU delegates, Natasha Wassmer and Bianca Suarez, were declared outstanding delegates. The University’s victory in NMUN Japan continues a series of successful delegations being sent to Model United Nations (MUN) events for the past few years.

According to DLSU NMUN Japan Head Delegate Natasha Wassmer, her team went through various training sessions and simulations prior to NMUN Japan. These trainings were done in collaboration with the NMUN DC delegation, which also bagged awards last November 13. Wassmer’s delegation consisted only of six people.

“The experience was great, especially since I was working with such a hardworking team. What I liked about my team was [that] we were able to give different perspectives on each topic. We helped each other grow to be better delegates by constantly supporting one another,” Wassmer narrates her experience.

One of the main challenges for her delegation was remaining relevant in the discussion. She says that her team worked tirelessly on making sure that they were accurate in both words and actions as representatives of Venezuela.

Wassmer asserts that effort was key in the competition, and that the more effort the delegates give, the more passionate they are. “There was a lot of pressure coming from a winning streak with both the NY and DC delegation, which is why I can proudly say that this delegation to Japan did not disappoint,” she adds.

With the streak of awards DLSU has received in MUN events, Wassmer believes that the DLSU MUN program is improving. “The training staff and delegates are learning more and more from each experience. I have no doubt that the future generations of DLSU NMUN delegates will do even better than the past delegates,” she concludes.
