UAAP: Green Tennisters defeat defending champion NU, Lady Tennisters remain winless

The DLSU Green Tennisters bagged a major victory earlier today, winning over the defending champions, the NU Bulldogs, 4-1, at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center. Meanwhile, the Lady Tennisters were edged by the ADMU Lady Eagles, 3-2. As a result, the Green Tennisters improved to a 2-3 win-loss standing whereas the Lady Tennisters remained winless in four games.

Green Tennisters finish strong

The Green Tennisters dropped only one match against NU as the tandem of Hans Asistio and Dale Gorospe lost in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, against Justine Prulla and Macky Latorre. La Salle’s four remaining matches, however, ended in victory over the four-time defending champion Bulldogs.

Betto Orendain finished his match against AJ Alejandre with ease, 6-1, 6-4. The other singles matches for the Lasallians ended in victory as well, as team captain Kyle Parpan defeated John Accion in two sets, 7-5, 6-2, while LA Canizares took home a three-set victory. After losing a set to Allen Manlangit early on, Canizares completed a comeback to take a 3-6, 7-5, 7-5 win.

Lasallians Jonah Cano and Qoqo Allian also edged the pair of Jigo Pena and Kiko Alcantara, 6-4, 7-5, to cap off their win over NU.

Lady Tennisters continue to struggle

Meanwhile, the Lady Tennisters fell at the hands of their archrivals. Team captain Rachelle De Guzman continues to be a bright spot for the Green-and-White, as she dominated ADMU’s Jana Pages in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. However, Chang Atangan failed to succeed over Lady Eagle Khrizelle Sampaton, losing in two sets, 7-5, 6-4.

La Salle’s Jenni Dizon, however, answered back in the third singles match as she cruised past Nicole Amistad with a 6-4 scoreline in both sets.

Despite taking a 2-1 lead, the Lady Tennisters succumbed to their counterparts in their doubles matches. The first doubles match featured Princess Castillo and Jed Aquino, who went up against the duo of Jessica Agra and Jana Hernandez of the Blue-and-White. The latter bagged a 6-4, 6-4 win over La Salle in a hard-fought match.

The duo of Kylla Orillosa and Kiana Gacias suffered the same fate against ADMU’s Rocio Climent and Alexis McLean as they were crushed in two sets, 6-1, 6-3, giving the Ateneans the tie.
