UAAP: DLSU Badminton teams dominate UE

The Green and Lady Shuttlers both dominated their counterparts from UE in their matches earlier today at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall. With 5-0 wins for both the men’s and women’s divisions, DLSU reaffirmed its bid for both division championships. Prior to the recent matches, the Green Shuttlers suffered a loss against ADMU last September 24, while the Lady Shuttlers were triumphant against UST last September 29, 5-0.

The 5-0 win for both then men’s and women’s teams earned redemption for the Green Shuttlers and another winning streak for the Lady Paddlers. “Actually we were overwhelmed because we got another 5-0 win,” says Coach Owen Lopez.

Bounce back performance

The Green Shuttler’s match day began with Jerick Obaob facing up against UE’s AJ Manlalangit, in the first singles match. Though the Red Warrior claimed the first game win, Obaob caught up in the next two games as he grabbed the win in the first match against Manlalangit, 2-1.

Following up the win for DLSU was Glenn Camillo, who garnered a 2-0 score against UE’s Silva in match number two. The winning streak in singles competition continued on with Cayel Pajarillo also claiming a 2-0 win against UE’s David in the third match.

Pajarillo and Obaob then paired up to go against Barretto and Donesa in the first doubles match. Like their singles matches, the duo was successful and won against their counterparts, 2-0. The second doubles match showcased yet another 2-0 victory for the Green Shuttlers as Kenneth Monterubio and Saragena paired up to go against Camacho and Cruz in game three.

Continued momentum

The Lady Shuttlers began their winning ways with Nicole Albo going up against UE’s Rosal in the first singles match. The match would end with a score of 21-8 in both games, in favor of the Lasallian.

DLSU’ Rivera kept the momentum going as she faced Dilla in match number two, winning by a score of 2-0. The third match had Lady Shuttler veteran Iyah Sevilla and Tercias going up against Labay and Fernandez. The Lady Shuttlers would again win in straight games, 21-18, 21-6. The same 2-0 results came as Leonardo and Albo paired up to go against the Rosal duo in match four. The last game of the day ended on a high note as Sevilla earned a 2-0 win, 21-8, 21-6 against Labay. Overall, it was a dominant win by the Lady Shuttlers as they swept the Lady Warriors in every single match-up.

According to Lopez, both are important match-ups, “We’re up against NU for the men’s and Ateneo for the ladies so I hope they play well because we need to win tomorrow, for the sake of entering the top 4 and to secure our position.”

The Green and Lady Shuttlers will resume action tomorrow, October 1, as they go against NU and ADMU, respectively.
