UAAP: Woes continue for Lady Tennisters as they fall to UP

The struggles of the DLSU Lady Tennisters continued as they fell to the UP Lady Maroons, earlier today at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Courts. Similar to last week’s matchup with UST, only team captain Rachelle De Guzman was able to bring home a win for her team.

De Guzman started everything off on a positive note by blowing past her opponent, Monica Cortez, in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. While the captain did her part, the rest of the team struggled to keep pace with their counterparts.

On the other court, DLSU’s Jenni Dizon faced off with Danielle Carranza. While the first set was tight, the Lady Tennisters was unable to take it home, as she lost the first set, 5-7. With momentum on the Lady Netter’s side, Carranza easily won the second set, 6-1, taking home UP’s first win of the day.

In a key doubles match, Nikki Arandia and Jed Aquino were able to win a closely contested first set against UP’s Willow Day and Dana Uy, 7-5. The Lady Maroons, though, quickly found their footing in the succeeding sets, winning the second and third sets, 6-3, 6-4, respectively.

With two matches left, it was still UP who clinched the win as Kiana Gacias and Mary Alcantara were no match for Denise Jimenez and Theresa Tan who swept the duo from Taft, 6-0, 6-0. This was followed by another win from UP when Monivic Santos defeated Kylla Orillosa, 4-6, 2-6, leaving DLSU with a 1-4 scoreline.

The Lady Tennisters will aim to get their first win on February 18, 12 pm, as they challenge the ADMU Lady Eagles at the same venue.
