Lady Tennisters demolish first assignment

Jan. 8 of this year marked the beginning of the UAAP Season 73 Tennis Tournaments as each team of the participating universities gathered at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center to hold their opening ceremonies.
Jan. 8 was not just about the beginning of yet another exciting set of wars on the tennis courts; it also meant that the title-defense of the DLSU Lady Tennisters had likewise begun.

Our very own Lady Tennisters opened the season with a rightful victory against University of the Philippines (UP) with a final count of 3-2. Finalist University of Santo Tomas also emerged victorious as they went against Ateneo de Manila University, also with a score of 3-2.

For the doubles division, last year’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) Trudy Amoranto teamed up with Kirstie Holly Barraquias to defeat JV Custodio and Steffani Guillermo, 6-4, 6-4, while UP’s Medelene Ramos and Zhane Quitara won over Mara Isabel Sotto and Steffi Marie Dizon, 6-0, 6-1.

Meanwhile in the singles division, Regina Santiago, last year’s Rookie of the Year, defeated Julie Botor, 6-2, 6-4. To everyone’s excitement, Sarah Jane Lim defeated Rachel Regina Lucero, 6-2, 6-0, to tie the match; but it was the win of DLSU’s Jonicka Guba against Mari Joie Altiche, 6-2, 6-2, that clinched the victory for La Salle.
