Green and Lady Tracksters conclude season 75 at third and fourth places, respectively

DLSU hosted the four-day UAAP season 75 track and field tournament held last December 4-8 at the Philippine Sports Complex (ULTRA).

The Green Tracksters ended the season at third with 249 points, behind FEU and UST, while the Lady Tracksters tallied 82 points as the squad failed to capitalize on different events. The ladies only took home three medals as the team trailed behind FEU, UE, and UST.

Men’s charge

Jose Unso led the Green Tracksters. He ended the season with seven medals; three of which are gold medals for the 400m hurdles, the 110m hurdles, and the 4x400m relay.

Jose Unso also managed to bring home three silver medals from the 4x100m relay, the 200m dash, and the 100 m dash. He also has a single bronze medal under his belt as he emerged from the 400m run.

Jose Unso’s brother, Patrick Unso, bagged six medals in the 400m hurdles, 4x100m relay, 200m dash, 100m hurdles, High Jump, and the 4x400m relay.

The Green-and-White dominated the Shot Put event as well, as Laurence Rose and Richee Cabanyog took the gold and silver tin the competition.

Garnering his second silver medal in the season, Richee Cabanyog fell as a bridesmaid in the Javelin Throw event.

On the other side of the field, Laurence Rosegrabbed another silver medal in the Discus Throw event. The Taft-based athletes also excelled in the Pole Vault event as Adel Valdecanas won the silver medal to wrap up the competition.

Brandon Quebral and Gerald Layumas backed up the Unso brothers in the 4x100m relays to complete the track with a silver medal.

In the 4x400m relay, Jericho Ejercito and Timothy Kairuz went down the stretch with the Unso brothers to find gold in the combination run.

Women’s struggle

The Lady Tracksters ended the track and field tournament in lower spirits. The team, has, however, managed to raise its ranking from fifth in season 74 to fourth this season.

Maureen Schrijvers struck the first blow as she earned the first silver medal from the High Jump event while Leah Casilahan ended the course with a bronze in the 110m hurdles.

The team’s final medal came from Twinkle Masilang as her performance in the Discus Throw event earned her a silver medal.

With the Green Tracksters concluding the team’s quest as third and the Lady Tracksters finishing the team’s run in the lower half of the tournament, expect the two to be back next season.
