DLSU Animo Squad All-Girls team wins first National Championship

Following the news of DLSU’s first UAAP General Championship, the DLSU Animo Squad All-girls team also managed to accomplish a first as the team won its first All-girl division in the National Cheering Competition.

The squad stole the crown from De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, which has held the crown in the last two years. The event was held at the Philsports Arena last March 10, 2013.

Animo Squad Coach AndroGarde shared that commitment played an important in DLSU’s win. This year, the team banked on its lineup, which was composed of sophomores and junior members who could do more difficult skills. The seniors also helped lead and train the rookies.

In addition, two teams represented the group in the stunts division. The teams won fourth and fifth place respectively.

With Natasha Mendoza, Alexandra Lisbona, Faye Cayab, and more seniors graduating soon, the Taft-based team will rely on the remaining veterans and new recruits next year.

Team Captain Natasha Mendoza closed, “Never stop aiming for bigger goals because it will drive them to reach further. And that as a team they need to work together towards one common goal because everyone has parts to play in the team. This is what can help a team grows.”
