UAAP: Resurgent Lady Archers shoot down Lady Eagles

The DLSU Lady Archers captured their second consecutive win at the expense of the ADMU Lady Eagles with a convincing 74-44 rout.

The dominating victory gave DLSU the solo third spot in the standings with a 7-3 slate behind league front runners FEU and NU. The win showed the brilliance of Taft Avenue’s cagebelles over their winless Katipunan counterparts, proving that their first round 54-38 victory was no fluke.

Sharpshooting guard Trisha Piatos led the Lady Archers’ cause with 18 points, anchored on four three pointers. Inna Corcuera backed the streaky shooter’s performance with a worthy 10 points of her own and reigning Mythical Team member Ara Abaca, the usual stat-sheet filler for the squad, had her lowest output of the season thus far with season-lows of six points and six rebounds, but she still managed to pull through with an all-around game and she contributed in the assists and steals department with five and four respectively.

The story of the game centered on the team defense deployed by DLSU. Their vaunted fullcourt press and brick-like halfcourt defense forced ADMU to several turnovers amounting to a whopping 26 for the game and they took full advantage of their opponents’ misfortunes and converted 33 points off turnovers.

The first half featured a tight match-up with ADMU hanging on courtesy of their lone bright spot Danica Jose, who managed 12 points in the first two quarters. DLSU was not able to take control of the game early as they were hounded with unforced errors on the offensive end.

After the halftime huddle, the Lady Archers took an early double digit lead that finally tipped the game in their favor. They outscored the Lady Eagles, 21-12, in the third quarter to establish a comfortable 18 point lead heading into the fourth canto.

The last quarter featured no let-up as DLSU continued to display their fiery form as their formidable defense and hot shooting ballooned their lead to 30 points as the final whistle was blown.

The Lady Archers’ next game will be against the UST Tigresses on Saturday, August 31, at 11:00 AM in the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
