The DLSU Green Batters came out with a 5-2 score as they triumphed over the NU Bulldogs in the season opener of the UAAP Season 76 baseball tourney. It was held at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex Diamond with the Green Batters going against their opponents from the University circle in a nine-inning matchup.

The Green Batters took the field with Carlos Munoz taking the mound against their opponents, pitching all nine innings while giving up two runs on four hits and walking three. The right hander did not give up a hit until the third inning, retiring the first eight batters he faced while striking out the side in the second inning. He struck out 10 batters.

DLSU’s offense came in the very first inning as they scored three runs. Munoz batted in two runs with a triple while Pocholo Dominguez drove in another with a single. The home nine knocked NU pitcher Juhmar Diarao out of the game early, just logging in 1.2 innings of work.

However, National University’s pitching only got better as reliever Ronel Peralta went in and pitched five solid innings, giving up two runs and striking out five (5 walks). He limited the La Salle team to just four hits. Aries Oruga pitched the remainder of the game, racking up a strikeout over 2.1 innings.

The Bulldogs were able to drive in two runs in the game but despite this, the Home Green managed to rack two more runs – courtesy of Martin Nolasco’s two-bagger – to put the game out of reach. They then went on to secure their victory on Opening Day, winning it with a double play for the final two outs.

The Green Batters will face the ADMU Blue Eagles for their second game of the season onThursday, January 9, 2014 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex Diamond.
