It was just another day at the office for the defending UAAP Women’s Volleyball Champions DLSU Lady Spikers as they swept the UST Tigresses, 25-23, 25-19, 25-19, yesterday at The Arena in San Juan. Last season’s Co-MVP Ara Galang led the team to victory contributing 18 points, 13 of which came off spikes.

The undefeated Lady Spikers drew first blood in the first set as they racked up five consecutive points courtesy of Galang and teammate Mika Reyes. The lead later ballooned to 10, 20-10, after which the Tigresses mounted a rally spearheaded by UST’s Carmela Tunay that cut the advantage to just one, 24-23. However, Cyd Demecillo ended the set with a spike to give La Salle the first set, 25-23.

The succeeding two sets followed the same story as the first with the three-time defending champions building a sizable cushion only to be trimmed by the relentless Tigresses, whose top scorer was Pam Lastimosa who finished with 10 points.

Kahit malayo yung score, kailangan makabalik agad,” said head coach Ramil De Jesus on the teams tendency to relax on its lead.

Maglalaro ‘to [UST] kung ano ang laro nila,” he adds as they try to maintain their perfect record this season and grab for the school’s fourth consecutive championship.
