UAAP: Woodpushers keep momentum alive

The DLSU Lady Woodpushers ended the weekend on a high note as they continued their dominating run through the tournament while the DLSU Green Woodpushers gained a win and a draw last February 8 and 9 at the Enrique Razon Sports Complex in De La Salle University.

The Lady Woodpushers, showed their supremacy in the tournament by trouncing NU Lady Bulldogs for the second time with a 3.5 – 0.5 win. Led by former UAAP Chess MVP Jodi Fronda, together with Bernadette Galas, Judith Pineda, and Rowelyn Acedo, the Lady Woodpushers have yet to drop a match in this season’s tournament. They further solidified their slot at the top of the standings by defeating FEU the next day, 2.5 – 1.5, extending their season-long winning streak to 10.

On the other hand, the Green Woodpushers dominated UE with a perfect 4 – 0 victory. The win was spearheaded by reigning Rookie of the Year, Jan Galan, together with Christian Naňola, Franz Grafil, and Aglipay Oberio, who outplayed their UE counterparts on what appeared to be a series of close calls. It is the Green Woodpushers’ second win against the Red Warriors, with their last matchup ending in a score of 2.5 – 1.5 in favour of DLSU last February 2. Galan and the rest of the team returned to action on the following day as they forged a draw against league-leading Adamson, 2 – 2, an improvement from their last matchup, which resulted in a DLSU loss.

The three-time defending champions Lady Woodpushers are sitting high on the standings with a 6.5 lead against UP, while in the Men’s Division, the Woodpushers are currently tied with NU for fourth place.

The Lady Woodpushers will put their streak on the line against Adamson while the Green Woodpushers are set to square off against the defending champions, UST, in the eleventh round of the tournament on February 16, 1 pm, at the same venue.
