Green Archers finish strong, shoot down Arellano in tune-up

DSC_8636 [1600x1200] [1600x1200]The DLSU Green Archers grabbed the victory in their tune-up game against the Arellano University Chiefs, 89-83, earlier today at the Enrique M. Razon Sports Center.

La Salle’s burly forward Jason Perkins led the team with 16 points while teammates Almond Vosotros and Kib Montalbo contributed 14 and 13 points respectively.

Arellano University came out strong as they ended both quarters of the first half leading 20-19 and 37-34.

The Green Archers would come back swinging though as they torched the Chiefs with three-point bombs, Vosotros dropping three of them, after the break to take a commanding 69-61 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

Coach Juno Sauler opted to go deep on his bench with most of his starters and primary players on the huddle resting.

Arellano University’s tenacious trapping defense allowed them to trim down the lead to four, forcing turnovers and converting fast break opportunities. However, La Salle held on their lead and kept the Chiefs at bay long enough to end up with the win.

Showcasing a pass-heavy set plays, DLSU ended up with a number of assists and a lot of easy buckets for the players. The receiving end of the dishes mostly fell on the hands of La Salle’s streaky shooters resulting to four players converting at least one triple.

Tune-up games like this serve a significant purpose for DLSU in preparation for the upcoming UAAP Season. With the rest of the league targeting them after reigning supreme in the previous season, the De La Salle Green Archers need to maintain its mojo over aspiring contenders and regain the competitive fire needed to defend their crown and keep their back-to-back championship aspirations alive.

Quarter Scores: 20-19, 37-34, 69-61, 88-83.
