The Judiciary held a hearing to account for the impeachment complaint filed against EXCEL2016 Legislative Assembly (LA) Representative Lorenzo Ermitano. After much deliberation, the Judiciary granted the petition to impeach Ermitano because of his guilty plea.
Ermitano violated Section 1.7, Article IV USG Officers Code of Conduct which states that, “There will only be three (3) unexcused absences each for the Regular and Special sessions for the entire school year. Otherwise, the Legislative Assembly shall file an impeachment case against the LA representative to the Judiciary under the violation of gross negligence of duties. Three (3) unexcused tardiness shall be equal to one (1) unexcused absence.”
In a statement issued by Executive Secretary Janel Tumpalan, it was said that Ermitano accumulated five unexcused absences and two unexcused tardiness. In addition, Kiara Lin, Rules and Policies Committee Chairperson, also released a statement saying that Ermitano was a member of her committee, and he had not been participative in meetings as well.
Hence, Chief Legislator Patrick Kahn, embodying the LA, filed an impeachment complaint against Ermitano.
In his impeachment complaint, Kahn asserted that, “Mr. Ermitano, despite warnings from members of the Legislative Assembly Inner Circle and with his full knowledge regarding the expectations of his constituents as an elected officer, has made himself impeachable through a clear violation of public trust by gross negligence of duty.”
As of the moment, there is still no replacement for Ermitano. Kahn said officer replacement guidelines will be released next time.
