UAAP: Green Spikers fall to FEU yet again

Coming into the match-up with momentum coming from their win against the UE Red Warriors, the DLSU Green Spikers failed to keep going as the squad fell one set short of a victory against the FEU Tamaraws, 17-25, 25-17, 22-25, 29-27, 10-15.

Green Spiker Mike Frey had a game high of 18 points with 14 attacks, three services aces, and a block in the losing effort. John Onia contributed 15 markers while Aaron Calderon and Ralph Calasin contributed 10 points apiece.

Greg Dolor and Jeric Gacutan carried the scoring load for the Tamaraws with 15 and 14 respectively.

The Tamaraws went off with a hot start in the first set as they led from the start until the end at 25-17.

The Green-and-White fought harder in the next set as they give FEU a taste of their own medicine with also a 25-17 set victory.

Down by seven points midway the third set at 20-13, the Green Spikers unloaded a 9-3 rally trimming down the lead to one. La Salle failed to score another point in the set as Dolor and Gacutan secured the last two markers to clinch a 2-1 lead.
The Green Spikers were a set point away to force a fifth set with a 24-22 lead against the Morayta-based squad. But Frey committed an error and Tamaraw Redijohn Paler scored off a block to tie the set at 24 points apiece. Both squads continued to exchange attacks and blocks before Calasin closed the set with two straight points to give the Green Spikers the fourth set.

FEU quickly made four straight points forcing the Taft-based squad to call a timeout in the final set. The closest the Green Spikers came was at two points at 8-6 before Lucky Margate capped off the match with a service ace, 15-10.

With the defeat, La Salle is still placed at the seventh spot with a 2-8 win-loss slate, all of the victories were against the eighth seed UE Red Warriors.

Earlier in the season, La Salle almost won their game against FEU after notching the first and second sets, but FEU bounced back strong as they claimed the last three sets of the match.

Despite the struggle all season long, the Green Spikers are looking forward to finish their remaining games on a high note as they face the NU Bulldogs on Wednesday 10 am at the San Juan Arena.
