UAAP: Lady Archers aim for first win against UE

The DLSU Lady Archers will try to bounce back from their opening day loss to the NU Lady Bulldogs last Tuesday when they face the UE Lady Warriors tomorrow, 1 pm at the Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City.

The girls from Taft were in for a rude awakening in their first game after suffering a blowout at the hands of last year’s champions, NU, 90-78. The victors were paced by national team stalwarts Afril Bernardino and Shelley Gupilan, who scored 15 and 11 points, respectively. DLSU was led by Ana Castillo with 15 points and six rebounds, while Camille Claro had 13 points and six assists in the loss.

The Lady Warriors, on the other hand, clobbered the Ateneo Lady Eagles, 43-29, to begin their Season 78 campaign with a morale-boosting win. Ruth Tacula and Eunique Chan scored 11 points apiece while limiting the Lady Eagles’ star player Danica Jose to only five points.

DLSU vs UE

In their head-to-head matchups last season, the Lady Archers swept both games against the Lady Warriors. DLSU took the first game with a 64-56 win while the second round match ended in a blowout, 78-52.

With a new lineup and a relatively different system, La Salle will have to find a way to stop UE’s sharpshooting veterans this Sunday if they hope to regain their winning form. UE, on the other hand, will look to build on their resounding win against the Lady Eagles. When both teams clash tomorrow, one will be looking to find their rhythm while the other will try to avenge their losses last season.
