UAAP: Lady Archers trump Adamson for fifth straight win

The DLSU Lady Archers, winners of their last four matches, built on their winning streak yesterday afternoon by blowing out the Adamson Lady Falcons, 75-57, yesterday, September 27, at the Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City.

Camille Claro continued her stellar play for the Taft-based squad, scoring a game-high 17 points while finishing with five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. She got ample support from veterans Ana Castillo and Ara Abaca, who dropped 14 and 13 points, respectively. Rookie Snow Peñaranda had another impressive rebounding performance after grabbing 14 in the game.

With the win, the Lady Archers are now in solo second place, ahead of the UST Growling Tigresses and behind the undefeated NU Lady Bulldogs.

Adamson held a one-point advantage, 31-30, at the end of the first half after exchanging baskets with La Salle during the first two quarters. Neither team could pull away as the biggest lead for the half stood at five points, 30-25, after a three-pointer from Lady Falcon Myra Osano.

However, the complexion of the game would change midway through the third quarter as DLSU would go on an 11-0 scoring run that turned a three-point deficit into an eight-point advantage, 45-37. Abaca had 10 of her 13 points in the quarter, helping her team race to a 15-point lead, 57-42 by the end of the third period.

In the fourth, the Lady Falcons scored their baskets but had trouble preventing their opponents from making their shots. They would be down by as much as 20 points, 71-51, after La Salle scored via a Katherine Gonzales bucket. The San Marcelino-based squad failed to recover from their disastrous third quarter as they finally succumbed to an 18-point loss.

Jamie Alcoy led her team with 14 points and seven rebounds. Osano and Rhea Tacitac each had 10 points in their team’s third defeat for the season.

Overall, the Lady Archers limited Adamson to 22 percent shooting from the field. They also forced their opponents into 36 turnovers, which they converted into 41 points.

For their last assignment in the first round, the Lady Archers will face UST next Sunday, October 4, at 11 am in the Blue Eagle Gym.
