UAAP: Loss to UE pushes Green Tennisters out of championship contention

The Green Tennisters faced up against the UE Red Warriors today at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Courts for their third match-up of the second round. Unfortunately for the Green Tennisters, today’s match was not in their favor as they lost against UE, 4-1.

In an attempt to bounce back from last week’s loss against Ateneo, the Green Tennisters were up against UAAP front-runners UE. After the win, the Red Warriors are assured a spot in the finals, while DLSU bows out of contention and will have to win tomorrow to guarantee a podium finish.

LA Cañizares and Betto Orendain played the first two singles matches, while Qoqo Allian and Jonah Cano played in the doubles match. After two sets, both Cañizares and Orendain unfortunately fell to their UE counterparts, with the latter losing to AJ Lim, 6-0, 6-0.

Meanwhile, Allian and Cano managed to give a close fight against UE, with the final set being played to a tiebreak. However, UE was able to outlast them to win the match and the tie already.

While La Salle already lost,  Gelo Cerezo was the third player to play in a singles match for DLSU, in an attempt to score at least a win for the Green Tennisters, but he also failed to win a set against the Red Warriors’ Barquin.

Kyle Parpan paired up with Hans Asistio for the second doubles match. Fortunately, Parpan and Asistio managed to win against De Los Santos and Medalla in three sets. In the end, though, DLSU still lost to last year’s champions, 4-1.

The Green Tennisters have one last shot to end in a podium finish. According to team captain Parpan, tomorrow, they will have to bring out everything they have worked hard for; “We are hoping that we can still finish with a podium finish tomorrow and hopefully we will play our best,” he said.

He further expressed that it would be his wish that everyone did their best, as for some of them, it is their last playing year; “For me, LA, and Allian, this is our last. I hope and I wish na lumabas lahat, everything, everything; all the five years we worked at sana lumabas tomorrowhe said.

The Green Tennisters will go up against the UST Growling Tigers tomorrow at the same venue, 12 nn, in their last match-up of Season 80.
