DLSU Green Booters Team 1 came out as the deserving winners after a dominant 4-1 display against the EAC Generals, who were reduced to 10 men after a first-half red card.
Goals from Gabe Suarez, Mo Almohjili, and a brace by Isaac Anoh propelled the team from Taft to victory and extended their undefeated streak in the Ang Liga Season 19 Division 1 tournament.
Although a successful set piece was converted by the Generals during the half-hour mark, it wasn’t enough for the team from Ermita to stop the Green and White from coming out on top.
A dominant display
DLSU controlled the flow of the game after Suarez swiftly scored the opener. With the ball constantly pressuring the Generals’ side of the pitch, it didn’t take long for the Green Booters to make it 2-0 after Almohjili comfortably converted a penalty kick.
Adding salt to the wound, EAC’s manpower was later depleted after they were handed a red card following an argument with the referee. With the whistle blown for halftime, the coach of the Generals was sent off as well—seeing La Salle go into the break in control of the momentum in the match.
Finishing strong
The Green Booters continued to dominate possession in the second half with the introduction of key substitutions. One of which was prolific striker Anoh, who made an instant impact in the 49th minute with a cool finish into the bottom corner after a series of crisp passes from La Salle to make it 3-0.
EAC made a last-ditch attempt by the 60th minute after being awarded a freekick that they converted into a header. Ultimately, it was Anoh who struck again to deal the finishing blow in the 71st minute with a bending freekick from just outside the box, restoring DLSU’s three-goal advantage, 4-1.
Following this commanding victory, DLSU Green Booters Team 1 aim to stay in the winning column as they face the Adamson Soaring Falcons on September 30, Saturday, at the UP Diliman Football Pitch.
