De La Salle University’s ENGLICOM is set to welcome the Year of the Wood Snake with its highly anticipated flagship event, Chinese New Year 2025: Pre蛇cious Scales of Fortune. This vibrant celebration will highlight culture, transformation, and prosperity, offering a dynamic showcase of tradition and festivity to mark the Lunar New Year.

For years, ENGLICOM has brought the spirit of Chinese New Year to life, honoring traditions that bridge the past and present. This annual celebration transforms De La Salle University’s Manila campus into a vibrant hub of cultural appreciation, featuring captivating performances, symbolic red décor, and cherished customs. More than a festive spectacle, the event serves as a time for reflection, renewal, and strengthening connections with family, friends, and the community.
In 2025, the Year of the Wood Snake embodies wisdom, transformation, and personal growth, embracing the journey of growth and the unknown possibilities ahead. This spirit defines Chinese New Year, a time-honored celebration of renewal and cultural harmony. From February 3 to 7, ENGLICOM invites the Lasallian community to take part in a dynamic hybrid celebration at the Henry Sy Sr. Grounds and on Facebook. The event will feature an exciting lineup of traditional games, performances, and festivities, carefully curated to honor both Filipino and Chinese cultures. Through this immersive experience, participants will engage in a meaningful exchange of traditions, fostering deeper appreciation and unity within the community.
The first day of this week-long celebration will commence on February 3, 2025, with Shedding the Past, Scaling the New: The Art of Prosperous Beginnings, running from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The day will begin with the Chinese New Year Mass, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, traditional lion and dragon dances, and a festive Chinese cuisine lunch. The highlight of the day, Write Your New Year’s Scrolls, will feature a special calligraphy session led by a teacher from the Confucius Institute of Ateneo, allowing participants to immerse themselves in the art of Chinese calligraphy and express their wishes for the new year.
On the second day, Serpent’s Secret: Unlocking the Flavors of Hopia Delights will celebrate Chinese culinary traditions from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The event will feature student performances and the main activity, What the Hopia?, a fun and interactive guessing game where participants identify unique Hopia flavors. Guests will also be treated to complimentary tikoy and milk tea, further enhancing the festive atmosphere.
February 5, 2025, brings The Viper’s Silent Strike: Tales of the Vicious Sports Chase, running from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This exciting day will showcase traditional Chinese sports through the Chinese Sports Relay, featuring activities such as touhu (pot-tossing), cuju (Chinese football), ping pong, and throwing the square. In addition to the sports challenges, guests can indulge in a variety of Chinese desserts and engage in the lively booth activities around them.
The festivities continue on February 6, 2025, with Spheres of Fortune: Crafting a Sweet Delicacy from the Past, running from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The main activity, Tang Yuan-Making, invites participants to craft glutinous rice balls, a symbol of unity and family. Guests can take home their handmade tang yuan to cook and share with loved ones. Complimentary dimsum and dirty ice cream will also be available, enhancing the day’s festive atmosphere.
The culmination of the Chinese New Year festivities will take place on February 7, from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM, promising a day filled with energy, cultural performances, and exciting prizes. The event will begin with Slither Relay: The Exhilarating Path to Prosperity, featuring the Snake Sack Race, an engaging competition that challenges participants’ agility and teamwork. As evening approaches, Eternal Scales of Harmony: A Night to Remember will showcase outstanding performances by LSDC – Contemporary, LSDC – Street, the Lasallian Youth Orchestra, and Wushu Genesis Philippines. Adding to the excitement, attendees will have the opportunity to win exceptional prizes in the grand raffle, including a 32-inch Smart TV, Nespresso coffee machine, air fryer, and LABUBU Blind Boxes. To complete the celebration, guests can enjoy complimentary tanghulu and taho, making this final day a truly remarkable conclusion to the week-long festivities.
