ENGenium ‘25 takes off to challenge limits

Engineering proves that the sky is not the limit, and with the relentless pursuit of what lies beyond, ENGenium celebrates the commitment, excellence, and ingenuity that transforms the industry. For the third time, the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers – De La Salle University (PSME – DLSU) Student Unit gears up for its annual flagship event, convening the brightest minds from diverse fields across the globe with a shared vision of pushing the boundaries of innovation.

With two marquee highlights, ENGenium 2025: Driving Innovation from Tracks to Tarmacs is set to be the boldest iteration to date. It features ENGenium Cup: An Interschool Grand Prix, a robotics racing tournament on March 19 at the Verdure, and Gateway: Blueprints to Blue Skies, an aviation-centered conference on March 22 at the Teresa Yuchengco Auditorium.

Running it back, ENGenium Cup challenges students’ expertise in mechatronics and design. This countrywide competition will bring 15 teams head-to-head on a PSME-DLSU-designed racetrack with their remote-controlled cars battling in terms of speed, mechanical concept, and design. High stakes demand a great racer as hairpin turns and steep slopes challenge each machine to its maximum and outside the track, the teams face the keen eye of the esteemed board of judges.

Ms. Reinna Biaca, a design expert from Dyson, joins Engr. Leo San Juan, a vehicle performance elite from Speedworks Engineering, and Engr. Lexus Valkyrie Lobigas, a robotics pro from Collins Aerospace, to determine who will reign supreme — trailing behind an engineering legacy and taking home the P10,000 prize waiting at the finish line.

Beyond competition, ENGenium 2025 fuels the mind as it shifts its gears on day two. Taking flight, Gateway sets the stage for in-depth discussions on aircraft design, airline maintenance, career pathways, and sustainability initiatives. Breaking new frontiers, DLSU transforms into a hub for the global aviation sector; bringing it right in the heart of Taft. With pioneers and top aerospace names in attendance, the convention bridges the academia with the professional sphere.

Driving the conversation forward would be a distinguished line-up of panelists and plenaries. Former Gripen test pilot Jussi “Miyagi” Halmetoja, operations advisor for the air domain of Saab AB will delve into Mechanical Ingenuity in Modern Aircraft Design. Following his talk, Engr. Robin Rabin, Air Quality Department Manager of Philippine Airlines Express, will lead the session on Engineering Marvels Behind the Scenes. After that, the event will culminate in a panel discussion exploring Aviation 2025: Engineering the Next Era of Flight, where Engr. Rakesh Dixit, Group Director of Cebu Pacific Air; Engr. Darmilo Sosa, Founder and CEO of Wingbox Aviation Inc.; and Engr. Mark Kennedy Bantugon, President and CEO of Pili Adheseal Inc. sits together to shape tomorrow’s skies, today.

Aside from top-tier speakers, attendees can immerse themselves in innovation first-hand at the two-day exhibit, from March 21 to March 22 at the Cory Aquino Democratic Space. Leading companies such as Saab AB and Lockheed Martin are present to showcase their cutting-edge technologies. The Philippine Air Force will likewise be in attendance, offering an exclusive look at their different types of flight simulators and a variety of military plane scale models.

More than a celebration for engineering excellence, ENGenium catalyzes advancement; Gateway will be the launching point for the new programs offered by DLSU’s Department of Mechanical Engineering: Aeronautical and Mobility Engineering. Furthermore, it will premier the first concept film of PSME – DLSU. The event also champions a cause — a portion of the proceeds will support a chosen beneficiary of the Organization, reinforcing its commitment to both progress and purpose.

Clearing for takeoff, ENGenium soars to redefine what is possible and challenge the boundaries thought to be ultimate. As it ascends into altitudes once more, the question remains — how high can we go when the sky is not the limit?
