After receiving a standing ovation from its audience the previous year, the European Studies Association (ESA) returns not to the spotlight, but to the warmth of sun-drenched gardens with the 6th International Studies Convention (6ISCON), blooming to life this July 11-22.

This year, 6ISCON is rooted in the theme “Repositioning International Studies at the Crossroads of History, Culture, and Politics”, where various disciplines reflect and shape the interactions of states, and transform the arena in which international relations unfold. In an increasingly interconnected world, this sixth iteration of ESA’s flagship event invites those curious enough to step into the gardens to take a closer look at these three forces whose convergence continues to impact global affairs along with the study and practice of such.
In partnership with the Organization for American Studies (AMSTUD), the Southeast Asian Studies Organization (SEASON), and Nihon Kenkyuu Kai (NKK), 6ISCON brings together a lineup which blends cultural appreciation with critical awareness towards today’s most pressing issues. From traditional Southeast Asian puppetry and Japanese queer media to the protection of human rights in immigration law, diplomatic engagement with global and state affairs, and the preservation of endangered languages, this convention peers past the lush petals of culture, history, and politics to confront the thorns hidden in contemporary occurrences.
Set to bloom this July, ESA invites all Lasallians to participate in sowing new seeds of curiosity and to watch them flourish into conversations and ideas which transcend borders.
