Lasallian student media standouts lauded at Gawad Midya 2026

Distinguished Lasallian student media practitioners were once again recognized for their contributions over the past academic year during the annual Gawad Midya.

Outstanding Lasallian student media practitioners from the University’s six media organizations were recognized for their journalistic excellence, achievements, and creative dedication during the past academic year at the Gawad Midya 2026, held online on August 28 through the Student Media Office’s Facebook page

The annual award ceremony began with remarks from Kian Ley Sotto, vice chairperson of the Student Media Council and managing editor of Ang Pahayagang Plaridel. In his message, he recognized each nominee, describing their commitment and work as a testament to hard work and excellence that deserves to be celebrated.

This year’s guest of honor, Franz Lopez, a senior photo and video journalist at Rappler and founder of Born in Film, delivered a video message emphasizing that a single perspective is not always factual and that having different perspectives does not necessarily mean all claims are true. He called particular attention to the storyteller’s responsibility to open minds while remaining critical, show empathy without sacrificing facts, be curious while ensuring verification, and encourage openness while upholding that responsibility.

A total of 35 awards were presented for this year’s recognition. Archers Network bagged Student Media Group of the Year for the second consecutive year. The Lasallian Leadership Award for Faith, Service, and Communion was bestowed upon The LaSallian’s Editor in Chief Angel Migue, while the Zeal of Service award was conferred upon Green & White’s Associate Editor Ramon Martinez for their commendable leadership and contributions to campus media and journalism.
