Blood shortages continue to affect local blood banks in the Philippines, which can have severe implications on patient care. Despite efforts by the Philippines Red Cross, DOH, and government initiatives, the country still faces challenges as it deals with a low voluntary blood donation rate of 6.6 per 1000 people1. In addressing the demand for blood in medical treatments and emergency situations, the De La Salle University – Red Cross Youth Council (DLSU-RCYC) will host ‘Tis the Season of Heroism: Blood Donation Drive 2026, on November 9 to 13, 2026, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, at the Ground Floor Cave Area of the Yuchengco Building, De La Salle University.

In partnership with the Philippine Red Cross, this project offers an avenue for voluntary blood donation. Alongside the recently held Pledge 25 seminar, this blood drive is aligned with the 10th Manila RCY Madugong Paligsahan, an inter-university bloodletting initiative uniting colleges and universities to ensure a stable blood supply. The project heads, J. Joachim D. Capellan and Christina Yvonne M. Sing, lead the efforts in promoting blood donation and the significance of blood drives in saving lives. Through this project, DLSU-RCYC aims to help in contributing to the country’s blood supply and support the humanitarian mission of the Red Cross.
DLSU-RCYC invites all students, faculty, and staff to join this health-related advocacy. Every individual’s contribution will help build a culture of service and solidarity in the community. Because of this, contributing to the blood supply shows that collective action makes a significant difference in the lives of others. By volunteering as a donor, we are united in our shared mission of compassion and hope.
