In the past year, the green fairways have been the domain by the golfers from Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU). As they gun for back-to-back crowns, a slew of formidable opponents come their way, one of which is last year’s third-placer DLSU.
The 2010 Intercollegiate Golf Tournament, a prestigious tourney pitting the best golfers from various colleges and universities and is backed by the Philippine Golf Foundation, teed-off last Nov. 7 in various golf courses in the Greater Manila area.
Among the schools vying for the golf title are University of the Philippines, Lyceum of the Philippines University, University of Asia and the Pacific, and last year’s bridesmaids the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.
The tournament features a unique home-and-away location format for the matches to be held. Each school will have a home course and their opponents will be the ones to visit them in these places, thus forming a strategic home-court advantage of sorts for the host. There are two categories in the matches, the High Low and Best Ball, wherein teams composed of two men each will compete.
The Green-and-White par busters will be bannered by team captain Fern Zaldarriaga, Allan Guy, Gino Bunyi, and Marvin Mendoza. Their first assignment, which was Lyceum, was headlined by Junior World medalist Wolen Superal.
