Rant and Rave: ‘The Power of Six’ by Pittacus Lore

Book cover courtesy of HarperCollins Publishers

The Power of Six certainly has all the elements and key plot points that should garner enough attention from any type of reader.

The Power of Six is Pittacus Lore’s thrilling sequel to the novel turned sci-fi blockbuster hit, I Am Number Four, which debuted last year. The story is told from two points of view: John Smith’s (Number Four) and a new character Marina’s (Number Seven), an “orphan” at a convent in Santa Teresa, Spain.

The plot revolves around the Loric Garde, the last warriors of their dying planet, who are trying to find each other, staying alive, developing their Legacies and fighting the evil alien race –  the Mogadorians,.

The story line can get a bit confusing and idle with Four and Seven’s never ending narrations of how important it is to unite and fight the Mogadorians. The action sequences get repetitive, and then there are the cheesy romantic lines that make you cringe or go ‘awww’, depending on your taste.

The back story of Six, the introduction of the new characters like Ella, Héctor, Adelina, among many other aspects is enough to keep anyone hanging. It has enough action, fantasy and adventure for those who want a more exciting kind of read, with all the elements of a love story that keep romantics flipping through the pages relentlessly.

Far better than its predecessor, The Power of Six has a stronger plot line, more interesting characters and plot twists that will make readers’ heads spin.

The plot in the books fit with such real situations which post this question; are they really walking among us? If you think this is just another sci-fi story, you have got another thing coming.
