Four points in the extra period were not enough for the De La Salle Lady Archers to escape from a gritty Adamson Lady Falcons as they suffer their second loss in four games in the 18 th Fr. Martin Cup at the San Beda Gym.
Miller Ong had the chance to give La Salle the victory, but her buzzer-beating triple hit the rim instead, sending the game into overtime.
Adamson then went full throttle as Snow Peñaranda buckled five points alongside Naille de Castro’s low-post bucket to give the Lady Falcons a 64-60 advantage.
To make things worse for the Lady Archers, Ara Abaca committed a travelling infraction at 47.9 ticks remaining.
Two split free throws of Jinky Balasta sealed the win for the Lady Falcons.
The Lady Archers held a comfortable 41-32 lead early in the third quarter, but the San Marcelino-based dribblers rallied back courtesy of a 12-0 run that handed them a three-point lead.
It was the Lady Archers, however, that grabbed the early lead in the first half; but Adamson stayed within touching distance from the girls in green.
Lady Archers Head Coach Tyrone Bautista noted that they were ‘terrible’ in defense and it has cost them the game. “We did not do a good job on boxing and out, and we’ve given up a lot of fastbreak points,” he adds.
Still, the Lady Archers’ mentor said that the results for this summer are not much of a concern. He is more focused on improving the girls’ actual capabilities and preparing them for this upcoming season, citing that for they had joined this competition mainly to brace for the UAAP.
“We do not want to be blinded by the results this summer … we are more concerned on us getting better,” ended Bautista.
