The Henry Sy Sr. Hall will be housing the University Library with the hopes of starting the transfer this October. The current library is located near the St. Joseph Hall and Pearl of Great Price Chapel.
Library specifications
Seeing as the current library holds a large collection of books, among other things, a large portion of the Henry Sy Sr. Hall will be allotted for the new Library. The library will occupy 8.5 floors of the new building. Although it will start at the 6th floor until the 13th floor, part of the 5th floor will serve as the lobby of the library.
Process of transfer
“Hopefully we could start with the transfer starting with collections that are not heavily used, like the special collections. We should be able to complete the transfer within two months,” says Ms. Ana Maria B. Fresnido, Director of the University Library.
Challenges
Several difficulties will be encountered considering the volume and variety of materials, as well as the fragility of the pottery collection and other memorabilia. The management finds the need to be very systematic, maintaining the arrangement of books that must remain accessible during the transfer.
The library may need to continue its usual operations in its current location in the span of two months. Other than the transfer of materials and operation of both libraries simultaneously, the limited number of personnel poses as another challenge.
An average of 2,157 people enter the library every day. Approximately 50,000 materials were borrowed from the DLSU Library in A.Y. 2011-2012.
